Money vs Morality

Following the equalizer in the saga of the Germany v Algeria wrestling league (Galleries 754 and 756), the obvious next event would be a match between the two winners, Colette and Gretchen. Although this caused much excitement and speculation, there was some unease about it in both countries. Both had had initial qualms about fielding a woman against a man, but it had proved so successful. No one had any reservations about a woman beating up a man! But pitting two such wild cats against each other? Apart from their awesome power, moral doubts were expressed about spectator “gratification” from religious groups.
In answer, the league thanked the religious groups for their comments, but politely replied that its business was wrestling, not morality. (Moreover, they knew it would earn a lot of money, and money nearly always trumps probity). So the event was decided upon, a prime-time Saturday evening slot was chosen, and the subscriptions rolled in.
“Algeria 1, Germany 1” the scoreboard unnecessarily announced, as the two women glared at each other in that surreal arena with no live audience. They wore the same leotards, in the national colours, that had made them look so desirable in their previous matches.
In came Gretchen, firing a right kick, which Colette parried. She tried again with a broadside left kick, and Colette’s arms warded it off again. A subsequent high kick was just that – soaring above Colette’s head as she crouched out of danger.
Colette’s defence had been admirable; but defence alone doesn’t win matches, so she moved in, looking to club Gretchen with her left knee. But it was deflected as skilfully and Gretchen’s earlier assaults. Colette’s leg recoiled, and shot forth again in a full kick. Anticipating it, Gretchen’s arms protected her face and drove it off.
Both women now opted for fists, and Gretchen’s struck home, catching Colette on the jaw, while hers was evaded by Gretchen. Buoyed up by this, Gretchen swapped to her right and struck again, but this time Colette ducked out of the way, and replied by scoring a vicious right kick straight into Gretchen’s breasts. In any other league this would have disqualified her, and it had German audiences shouting “Foul!” at their television screens.
This had Gretchen reeling. As she stumbled, dazed, Colette hook-kicked with her left leg, and caught her on her left jaw, before plowing her right fist into her kidney. Gretchen was down, representing a free shot for Colette’s feet.
Whether this was a ploy or not depended on whether you were Algerian or German. Algerians claimed that she over-stretched with a kick, enabling Gretchen to grab her; Germans maintained that she planned it, and calculated that one kick was worth it to be able to bring her down. Whatever: she had her down with her, and they both grappled on the mat.
The confused action went to and fro, and had audiences squinting at their screens, trying to deduce which one had the advantage, beyond the grunts, hisses and curses. Punches got thrown as the women swung, snarling, back and forth. Gretchen got one kick in, and Colette looked as if she was going to break away, but still the struggle wove and growled its way around the mat.
Gretchen attempted a headlock; Colette escaped, sat up on the German girl, and punched her jaw. Bruised but undeterred, Gretchen hauled her back down with a grip on her right thigh. Even German audiences concluded that she was fighting defensively, seeking to constrain Colette in what amounted to “mat clinches”, and the struggle hinged on whether Colette could break free. Gretchen was stronger than Colette, and she resembled a spider using its web to ensnare her, so that she would be worn down and frustrated from using her superior speed.
Colette was on top for much of the time, but it was an illusion of advantage – the fact that she was held down worked in Gretchen’s favour, giving her time to recover from the punishment she had received, while she hoped to drain the other one’s strength in this energy-intensive grappling.
However, Colette did at last free herself enough to exploit her position, and successfully pinned Gretchen, locking her right arm in her arms, and trapping her left leg in her thighs. Then the pain was inflicted on Gretchen’s arm, as the Algerian girl stretched and twisted it, eliciting German cries of pain.
Colette now sat on Gretchen’s turned face, rendering both her arms useless by covering them with her supple, flexible thighs. As she was high up on Gretchen’s body, it meant that she was “out of range” of any hope that Gretchen might have of bringing her legs into play. The strain began to tell on Gretchen’s neck under the weight of Colette’s hind quarters.
Reinforcing her advantage, Colette now knelt on and over Gretchen’s upper arms and sat on her face, this time full-on. A million glances were exchanged in front of television screens in Germany and Algeria as Colette appeared to luxuriate in this position, stretching up and beyond, and resting on her hands. When the camera homed in for automatic close-up views, as it did every few minutes, her hard, bullet-like nipples looked as if they might dig their way through the skimpy material of her leotard.
Just as the sexual tension looked as if it would reach a crescendo, Colette chose to cool the temperature instead, and focus on pure combat. She pinned Gretchen again, lying across her upper body. She ensnared her arms and head, and once again lay beyond the reach of any kick Gretchen might consider.
Gretchen now repeated her earlier tactic of grabbing Colette, this time by the head, and enveloping her so that she couldn’t attack. But this time her counterattack didn’t last very long. Colette, initially taken by surprise, struggled free, and knelt over Gretchen’s right arm and throat, bringing her foot down over her left shoulder.
Then it was a variation of a schoolgirl pin, as she grabbed Gretchen’s upper arms, and lay above her. The weight of her body over Gretchen’s middle once again rendered her legs useless. But now she wanted to speed the action up, and once again a fierce struggle ensued when she looked to find a match-winning hold (whatever it might be). Gretchen, resisting to the last, fought back admirably.
But she had weakened, and at last Colette found that elusive match-winner. She forced Gretchen into a kneeling position, then pushed her down, sitting on her face once more. But she had tucked Gretchen’s legs under her thighs, so that when she pushed with her rear on Gretchen’s face, the pain in her legs – particularly her knees – was excruciating. You could call it a double leg lock-head scissor, and she made it even worse by placing her right arm under the small of Gretchen’s back and heaving her up, while all the time pushing her head down with her backside on her face.
After briefly and vainly struggling, Gretchen flopped, exhausted and defeated. Colette stayed where she was probably longer than was decent, wallowing in victory and gratification, before standing and posing over her beaten opponent. The rattle of the old-fashioned scoreboard caught up with what everyone had known for a couple of minutes, and read, “Algeria 2, Germany 1”. (It might just as well have read, “Money 1, Morality nil”.)
